What is Composite Decking

Composite Decking is a material mixed with wood fibers and eco-friendly polymer resin plastics. Composite decking is more durable than regular timber or wooden decking but has the unique appearance and feel of natural wood.

What is UltraShield?

UltraShield is recognised worldwide for its robustness, beauty and versatile colour combinations. UltraShield is an environmentally friendly fully capped wood plastic composite. Years of engineering and countless hours of field-testing has yielded a product of unmatched performance and beauty. UltraShield combines the proven strength of high density polyethylene plastic and wood fibers with an outer shell of polymer that completely encapsulates the board in an impermeable layer of protection from stains & fading.

Is UltraShield environmentally friendly?

Our products are made from 95% recycled materials, including clear plastic bottles and reclaimed wood fibers. We’ve reduced our carbon footprint through waste reduction, energy conservation and a vertically integrated manufacturing process. Every month we save over 12,000,000 pounds of plastic from being buried in landfills.

Is UltraShield really low-maintenance and paint free?

UltraShield’s premium shield encapsulates the board in an impermeable layer of protection. This makes UltraShield stain and fade resistant. The boards are waterproof so only sweeping and cleaning off debris and dirt is required for upkeep; ultra low maintenance and easily wiped clean.

How strong is UltraShield?

UltraShield has been means tested above global regulatory standards. Lab testing rarely mimics real life, so we went above and beyond to make sure that you have peace of mind and that you can rely on our composite decking boards.

Will colour fade because of exposure to the sun?

Our superior technology gives our boards great resistance against the sun. We have tested direct UV on our boards for hundreds of hours with minimal change.

What joist spacing is required when using UltraShield?

UltraShield has a sufficient load rating to span 15.8” (400 mm) on the centre for joist spacing when using diagonals we recommend a 11.8” (300 mm) joist spacing.

Does UltraShield last forever?

Not forever, but sure feels like it! UltraShield uses only the best materials for composite boards. Years of engineering has been spent to ensure the correct blend of components was used for UltraShield to stand the test of time. We are confident in the product and its long lasting performance so we have backed it with the most comprehensive warranty in the industry.

Does UltraShield cost more than wood?

In the short term it does, however, when you compound the maintenance you have to carry out on wood every year, the costs really add up. In a very short amount of time, you will be able to appreciate the time and money you would have saved by using UltraShield.

Does UltraShield work like wood?

Yes! You can cut, nail, drill, screw, and rout UltraShield with standard woodworking tools. The density of UltraShield is greater than wood thatʼs why we recommend using carbide tipped blades and bits.

Is UltraShield impervious to mould?

Yes! UltraShield decking has mould inhibitors that prevent mould growing on the inside of the board. Surface mould can still happen, however, it can be easily wiped clean and will never penetrate the board itself.

How does heat affect UltraShield?

UltraShieldʼs heat retention is better than that of wood decking. Consumers should test the product in barefoot scenarios to ensure suitability. UltraShield is used and performs as intended worldwide in countries with extreme heat conditions including Africa and Dubai.

Can UltraShield use hidden fasteners?

Yes! UltraShield decking has grooved boards that accept the “Hidden Fastener System”. The TC clip system has a 5mm gap and the MG system has a 1mm gap.
